How To Interview Your Therapist

One of the hardest things for people to do when looking for a therapist is to interview them. We often hear the comment: “I don’t know what to ask.” Below is a list of questions which you may find useful. Feel free to use any or all of them. We will continue to add to this list as time goes on.

Questions To Ask:

How long have you been in practice?

Are you licensed by the State?

How do I know you provide quailty service?

What is your therapeutic orientation and is it effective for my type of problem?

What is your area of expertise?

What is your experience in my specific area of concern?

What has your success rate been?

What are your hours?

How much does it cost?

Do you have evening or weekend appointments? If so, is there an extra charge?

Will you take my insurance?

What would I/we do in our first session?

Do I need to come in early to fill in paperwork?
